Blended Intensive Program: AI in Education - Innovation & Fairness

Where, when and who?

This summer course explores the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on development of AI prototypes. The program blends online learning with an on-campus intensive week in Berlin, where participants work on real-world AI applications in education.

Date: 29.09.25 – 04.10.25
Location: HTW Berlin, Germany & Online
Credits: 5 ECTS
Target Audience: Bachelor and Master students in Computer Science, Business Administration, Business Informatics, Education, and related fields

Students will work in groups to create a prototype demonstrating AI use in education, using use cases provided by  partners. 

Grading
Task 1 (Before Berlin): Read and present a scientific paper on AI in education (20%)
Task 2 (In Berlin): Develop an AI prototype for education (40%)
Task 3 (After Berlin): Country-specific assignment (40%)
German students: Write a homework assignment
Polish students: Create an AI-related podcast
ESSCA & ISM students: To be determined

Program

  • Hands-on AI Prototypes – Develop AI applications for educational use cases.
  • Expert Lectures & Workshops – Learn from researchers and industry professionals.
  • Ethics & Fairness in AI – Explore AI bias, transparency, and responsible AI in education.
  • Cultural Exchange & Networking – Engage with international peers and explore Berlin’s tech scene. 
12.09.25 (Friday, Online)Introduction to AI in education and group formation. Mixed student groups are assigned scientific papers on AI in education. After this introductory session, each group meets online (self-organized) and prepares a short poster presentation on their assigned paper before arriving in Berlin.
28.09.25 (Sunday):Travel to Berlin.

13:30 Input: AI technologies for use in projects (e.g., OpenAI API) (45 min)
14:30 Group work (developing ideas for AI prototypes in education)
Evening: Social activity (e.g., bowling)
